The New Year is one of the most important traditional festivals in the Chiense culture. No matter where people are, they return home for a family reunion during this time. Various traditional cakes are essential during the New Year, including radish cake, prosperity cake, sweet rice cake, and savory-sweet cakes. Eating these cakes symbolizes "rising higher step by step" in the coming year. In the past, the New Year's Eve feast was a rare and luxurious meal for families, and staying up late on New Year's Eve was a meaningful tradition, expressing blessings for elders and strengthening family bonds.
