Grieg's mother was a pianist, and he began studying music with her at a young age. At thirteen, he entered the Leipzig Conservatory. After graduating, he focused on composing and became the conductor of the Christiania Symphony Orchestra, gaining international acclaim.

Grieg's music was heavily influenced by the German Romantic style and inspired by his friend, nationalist composer Rikard Nordraak. He blended rich Norwegian folk music with elegant orchestral forms, creating unique northern-themed compositions.
